Hacking VeriSign in 2010

In the quarterly reporting form 10-Q for the SEC commission, VeriSign mentioned the fact of repeated unauthorized access to its corporate network in 2010. According to the company, the unknown “got access to the data on a small part of our computers and servers”. It is not known what particular information came to the attackers, but “we conducted an investigation and do not believe that these attacks penetrated to the servers on which the DNS system is running,” is indicated in the report on page 33.

Information was brought to management only in September 2011. VeriSign is forced to disclose these facts in connection with the new requirements of the SEC on the publication of information about hacks.

Recall that VeriSign hosts two of the 13 root DNS servers, and until August 2010 the company was also the Certification authority, which issued digital signature key certificates, then this business was sold to Symantec.
