To create this topic I was pushed through this project (It is of course done incorrectly, but only prof. Columnists will understand me, the filter must be calculated by measuring the frequency response and starting from the case). In general, I thought that this is not interesting, but it turns out there is interest.
Therefore, I want to share with you my design. Description of the project and a lot of photos further ...
The first thing I started with the assembly is of course the choice of speakers. The system was conceived as a 4-way, so the following dynamics were chosen: ')
- Tweeter (tweeter): SB Acoustics SB26STAC-C000-4
- Midrange (Midrange Speaker): Peerless Peerless 830813 (not a serial speaker, accidentally bought on ibei)
- Woofer (woofer): ScanSpeak 18W / 8535
- Subwoofer (SUBWOOFER): Peerless 830846
Next, you need to measure the parameters of Tilla-Smoll, as well as at least the frequency response of the speakers. Measurements in the construction of acoustic systems are needed as well as the correct spelling of the dealloc method. Otherwise, you will get a box with speakers a bad speaker system.
For measurements, I used the following technique written by my friend, for which a special thanks to him. The parameters of the speakers spread here I think there is no need for anyone interested to see them here (first post).
The next stage is the calculation, modeling and assembly of the hull. I will not go into technical details about calculations and measurements since it is difficult and long.
Also, the system needs amplifiers and a filter. Chose a digital DSP filter . It has a very significant advantage over passive - you can reconfigure the system online. To do this, connects the filter to the USB and through the software that comes to it we set up as you please. Settings are applied on the fly i. when music is playing! I use channel / multiband (as he calls) amplification, so each speaker has its own separate amplifier. This gives a good increase in sound quality. For LF-MF-HF channels, I took amps on the LM3886 (30W each). For SUBnch took on the chip LME49830 (100W each) Well, all this should be put in the case, which I bought here .
I figured the design of the case, I want to understand how it will look about. That's what happened (I did not draw).
Here immediately marked volumes of cameras for each speaker.
The thickness of the MDF is 25mm (28mm in the photo above, but when I bought it in the warehouse, there was no other ...), the weight will not be small ... Well, I looked at it and thought that it suits me, but now the finish will probably be of a different color, so it happened ...
The assembly process, a lot of photos:
Materials were given for milling and cutting. Recorded a video of how the front panel was milled.
It turned out the following, already started the assembly of the case
Applying adhesive to glue the film.By the way its thickness is 1mm)
Well, here they come home.Put it looked happy, tomorrow you need to set the dynamics.
For the connection, countless meters of wires and screws were bought, although some were not useful at all.Speaker connectors were machined from the turner.
To suppress standing waves, a material similar to batting was added to the box with mid-tweeters.I forgot the name of the one that I bought, but the main thing is that it fits)
It was also necessary to do a little soldering.Found a little tin and rosin, set to work.
The glossy film is covered with a protective film, so here in the photo it looks pretty bad .
Well, one day is spent and the left channel is assembled!
And this is a photo of the rear speakers, as can be seen here are custom-carved connectors. Each speaker has its own wire, its own amplifier, so there are 8 connectors for one speaker.True, the photo shows 10, because I have a 2-reel 10 "speaker. I decided to bring out both coils so that I could experiment with the connection: in series or in parallel.
The next day everything was ready ...
I removed the protective film from one column, without a flash, the photo is better, although I have a soap dish kodak z1015.
Next, the electrical part. This is the miniDSP filter housing.
The filter with power in the case, switching of output signals further on the 8-channel amplifier is also visible.
This is the amplifier itself. It has 2 toroidal transformers of 300W each. One feeds 6 amps on the LM3886, the other two amps on the LME49830
I redid the back panel, ordered a new one out of aluminum and put it on the bores I needed.Later I ordered bananas for acoustic cables, they are not in the photo.
The inside of the amplifier.Places are not very many.
Now you need to measure and adjust all this.Get to the process. For this, I bought a calibrated Dayton EMM6 microphone and ordered a phantom power supply for it.
Once again before the measurement graphs, you can look at what happened :)
Filter settings are as follows.
There are also exhibited delays for midrange tweeters and are 0.12ms and 0.18ms, respectively. The installation of biquads in the filter involved the Linkwitz corrector for the subwoofer, but was later turned off.
Further measurements and adjustment
I do not want to explain anything on the charts (I think there is no special meaning), since here is a little wrong audience, nothing personal) And those who are still interested can see the project description on the forum “Vegalab”. I gave the link somewhere in the text above. Welcome.
I just want to say that the most important thing that needs to be understood is that audio is a technology that is based on a solid scientific basis. Audio is not art, and audio products are not characterized by any artistic characteristics with the exception of appearance. Therefore, without measurements of the frequency response, phase response, impedance, Til-Small parameters and other "scary" to do anything worthwhile will not work! Simply take the speakers, make any body for them and put some kind of filter - this will only lead to the creation of a box with speakers ...
The sound of this system has turned out very good quality. I am not a whale to describe what you need to listen, I can only say that if you want approximately the same quality, then the store needs to fork out at $ 10,000 - $ 15,000, these are industrial options.
Thank you all for your attention and I am glad that you have mastered so many photo text.
