Robots from iRobot "train" to work on Fukushima

Last year, in the summer, the news appeared on Habré that iRobot robots would be involved in eliminating the Fukushima accident. It is clear that robots will not be able to build a sarcophagus, or to remove debris, or do anything else like that. But some of them collect radioactive dust, which is abundant in the station. Other robots are equipped with manipulators that allow you to take certain items (for example, for analysis). Still others are just for studying the environment. However, unlike the iRobot robot vacuum cleaners, these devices are controlled by operators.

In the continuation, you can find a video depicting how robots ride around the station, open doors, go down or climb stairs. It's not entirely clear, though, as far as robots are useful here, but the video is worth seeing. In one of the frames, by the way, a game controller from Logitech appeared - it is these devices that operators use to control devices.

So far, the robots have been tested in combat, so to speak, conditions - on the territory of Fukushima, and not somewhere on the test site. It seems that the devices have shown themselves very well. One of them, 710 Warrior, can even carry a man. It is a pity, of course, that these devices do not have an autonomous work program, as in the case of home vacuum cleaners. But what to do - in difficult conditions, so far only a person is able to assess the situation and take appropriate decisions.
