Twitter introduces censorship for certain countries
A year ago, Twitter declared : “Free exchange of information has a positive global effect ... almost every country in the world recognizes that freedom of speech is an inalienable human right.”
However, yesterday Twitter clarified its position: “As international growth grows, we start working in countries that have different attitudes towards freedom of speech. Some people perceive it so differently from us that we cannot work there at all. Some are normal, but they block certain types of content, for example, France and Germany are blocking Nazi materials. ”
To meet the requirements in each country, the company Twitter has developed a functionality for local content blocking, which is in effect from today. If earlier tweets could be blocked on the whole site entirely, now it can be done in a certain country.

This functionality has never been used, Twitter promises that it will resort to it only as a last resort. In addition, the http://chillingeffects.org/twitter page is open, where all applications for censorship submitted to Twitter are published.
Add that Twitter is now completely blocked in China, and the local Weibo clone has already surpassed Twitter in the number of messages per second (32,312 in the Chinese new year against the record of 25088 twitter).
