SPDY protocol can be enabled in HTTP / 2.0

Chairman Mark Nottingham sent out yesterday to all members of the HTTP working group, where he suggested making the SPDY network protocol part of the HTTP / 2.0 standard. This technology, developed by Google, makes it possible to significantly speed up the loading of websites via HTTP by multiplexing requests, setting priorities for requests and compressing HTTP headers (see test results ). SPDY has long been working in conjunction with the Chrome browser with Google servers.

The basis for his proposal Nottingham believes that the protocol is already de facto used online, it is implemented in two main browsers: Chrome and, a month ago, in Firefox Nightly , and its experimental implementations from independent developers, for example, SPDY server, appeared on python .

The formal adoption of SPDY in HTTP / 2.0 should give impetus for the widespread introduction of this technology both on the server side and in other browsers.

HTTP Working Group work plan for the near future:
Done The first edition of the HTTP / 1.1 Internet draft
Done The first Internet HTTP security properties draft
February 2012 Deadline for the working group on the HTTP / 1.1 edition and HTTP security properties
April 2012 Transfer of the HTTP / 1.1 edition and HTTP security properties to the IESG for consideration as a proposed standard
May 2012 The first HTTP / 2.0 Internet draft
May 2013 Request deadline for HTTP / 2.0
July 2013 HTTP / 2.0 Transfer to the IESG for consideration as proposed standard

Thus, SPDY can enter the HTTP / 2.0 draft as early as this May.
