Experts research company Burton Group concluded that in the next couple of years, networks built on the basis of the wireless standard 802.11n, wired out Ethernet. This will be possible due to the trend of transition from desktops to laptops and quite good data transfer rates (248 Mbit / s Wi-Fi 802.11n, versus 100 Mbit / s for Fast Ethernet).
In addition, as arguments in favor of such a forecast, experts point out improved security in 802.11n compared to previous versions of Wi-Fi standards, security and collaboration of many users, as well as the active development of services using wireless IP networks as transport. Even the fact that the final version of the 802.11n standard has not yet been adopted does not prevent various manufacturers from releasing devices based on it. And in 2009 (when, most likely, the final specification will appear), Wi-Fi 802.11-based networks will become really massive.
