IBM makes one of its security development open source software.

IBM developed a program that allows you to not disclose your personal data during monetary transactions on the Internet, and transferred the development of the open source project to Higgins .

“The system is called Identity Mixer and was developed by IBM. The principle of operation is based on the fact that people, instead of sharing data about themselves or their credit cards, use an encrypted certificate issued by a bank or the state, ” said Anthony Nadalin, chief security architect, in an interview with news.com .

“Today you traditionally give out all private information and don’t know how it will be handled later,” says Nadalin, further explaining that Identity Mixer allows you to create a pseudonym and work through it.

For example, making a purchase in an online store, buyers would be able to use the issued certificate, and not to provide their credit card number. The store would send the received certificate to the company that issued the card to you, and it would verify the data, giving permission to make the payment. The seller thus does not get your credit card details.

An encrypted certificate would be one-time. The next operation would require issuing a new certificate. The system is similar to one-time credit card numbers that Citigroup bank customers can generate on the site. IBM believes that technology like Identity Mixer can help restore online confidence.

IBM transferred the development of the open source project to Higgins, a joint venture of IBM and Novell. The goal is to give users more control over their personal data during financial transactions on the Internet.
