How I stopped being afraid and fell in love with the UEFI Security Boot
I want to share my thoughts on why users will benefit from banning Safe Boot from disabling and adding new keys to Safe Boot on ARM devices. By ARM devices, I will only mean tablets because installing Windows 8 on other ARM devices is highly questionable. I do not want and will not write about Safe Boot on the PC because I consider this issue settled after it became known that it would be possible to add my keys or, at all, disable it.
MS is not currently represented on the tablet market (please do not write comments like “there is such an animal” - even if the tablets are very few). To enter this MS market it is necessary to lure users to their products. What can lure users? Quality, marketing and pricing. At the expense of quality and marketing, holivarit early, but the price is an interesting issue.
To entice users to tablets with Windows 8, you must sell them at a price not higher than the price of iPad 2 and provide hardware on which Windows can work normally. MS can achieve a low price only by paying the same, magically lost profit to the vendors. It turns out the following scheme:
1. Pay vendors.
2. Sell a lot of devices.
3. ???
4. Profit!

At first glance it may seem that the third point may be difficult. But! Fortunately, Apple has long invented everything for us. You can link users to your ecosystem and earn money on the marketplace and X-Box Live. Such a system will work only if customers do not have the opportunity to change the environment.
What do I get from this? I will have the opportunity to buy a tablet with a good iron for $ 300- $ 500. On this tablet, I can run a full set of applications that other tablets give me and ... my favorite torrent client, a full-fledged office, steam and X-Box Live.
What am I losing at the same time? Ability to install an alternative OS. I believe that a decent discount is worth it.
What do you get from this? If users vote with a ruble for such a sales system, then over time Google will have to switch to it. In this case, the new Android-tablet level Galaxy Tab and Flyer will no longer be over-priced. Also, in my opinion, only such an approach to the sale of tablets can give Canonical the opportunity to grab a piece of the market.
If the user does not vote with a ruble, then nothing terrible will happen and you will be able to create another official vendekapec thread on the Internet.
Safe Boot on ARM goes into the hands of non-religious people, if MS is actively enough to pay vendors for selling tablets with Windows 8. Religious people, IMHO, will be unhappy even if MS opens the code for all its products and starts giving them away for free.
