This year we held a lot of activities designed to teach students to develop applications for Windows Phone7. This is understandable - the level of entry into the development is very low, any student, not being a professional programmer, can come up with an idea, put it into an application and start selling on the Marketplace. There are many such examples.
In addition to placing on the Marketplace, there is still a good opportunity to talk about your application - this is the competition Imagine Cup. Participation in it is also an opportunity to get to the international finals of competitions in Australia, in the summer of 2012. Last year, a team of students from YSU , who developed the game Cleaney , won the trip to the finals . ')
This year, the authors of applications for Windows Phone 7 phones can take part in three categories of the Imagine Cup at once (of which the first two are held online around the world):
Competition β Game Development for Windows Phone 7 β, for which you need to submit an application before February 14, 2012 . The application is either a brief description of the game or the storyboard in the form of a storyboard . All those who submit minimally reasonable descriptions will be invited to Round 2, in which they will have to submit a XAP file with the game, game instructions and videos. According to the results of the online tour, the top 10 teams will be invited to the international final in Australia, where they will fight for the main prizes ( $ 8,000 , $ 4,000 and $ 3,000, respectively).
The β Windows Phone Challenge β competition will be interesting for those who are creating more business applications for the phone (it is not recommended to submit games for this competition). Application for the first round of the competition - until March 13, 2012. You must submit a description of the application (in English) and a prototype of SketchFlow . Teams of 1β4 undergraduate or graduate students can participate. The 100 best teams will pass to the 2nd round, where it will be necessary to present a working application and its video demonstration. Three winning teams will be invited to the international final for awarding prizes ( $ 8,000 , $ 4,000 and $ 3,000, respectively).
Phone applications and games can also be submitted to a software project competition , however, the best results can be achieved if the application is only part of a larger software system (for example, the client on Windows Phone interacts with the service on Windows Azure).
If you do not know how to develop applications for the phone - it does not matter, it is very easy! To get started, take a look at simple lessons on developing a Silverlight application or developing a game on XNA , then use the following helpful resources:
I look forward to your work for the contest, and sincerely wish success to Russian students! Details about why to participate (and at the same time how to come up with the idea of ββthe application) I already wrote a few days earlier .
