Iranian web developer sentenced to death

The 35-year-old Iranian web programmer Saeed Malekpour has been sentenced to death for insulting the shrines of Islam. His fault lies in the development of software for porn sites.

According to the Guardian , Said Malekpur’s fault was established in an original way: immediately after arriving in Iran, the programmer was arrested and placed in a solitary cell, where he spent a year (!) Without talking to a lawyer. After that, he was brought to television, where Malekpur frankly confessed to the creation and promotion of porn sites. Then, the Iranian Supreme Court issued a death sentence on the basis of this admission made on television.

According to relatives, Said has lived and worked in Toronto for the past few years. He wrote software (like, open source), which was used without his knowledge to upload photos to porn sites.

Initially, the death sentence was passed in June 2011, but after the public relations campaign, the Iranian Supreme Court ordered an adjournment for additional examination. The current verdict is already final and can be carried out before the end of this week.
