Orangutans have mastered the iPad and started calling relatives

Volunteers from the charity organization Orangutan Outreach spent six months at the Milwaukee Zoo teaching local orangutans how to work with an iPad - and have achieved considerable success. The monkeys mastered FaceTime video chat and began to call their relatives to other zoos on their own.

Reportedly, the choice of films and programs is different for each individual. For example, the 31-year-old MJ, by virtue of his age, prefers a calm documentary film with beautiful landscapes. Everyone, without exception, likes to watch videos with their participation, as well as when a familiar orangutan from a neighboring cell is present on the video.

Employees of Orangutan Outreach first set up webcams in different parts of the zoo to let the animals watch their neighbors. Then they decided to develop the idea and organized a video chat.

In addition to video chatting, orangutans love games and entertainment apps from the App Store. Among the games for monkeys, the Flick Football arcade is popular, and from the programs, the application for drawing Doodle Buddy (in the photo below).

Both of these applications have a rather high rating in the App Store and are among the most popular also among people. There is nothing surprising, because orangutans are considered one of the closest relatives of a person. They are a lot like us: for example, they like to pose in front of the camera and suffer from tobacco addiction.
