Broadcom has developed a chipset with NFC and GLONASS support for low-cost mobile devices

Apparently, the market for low-cost smartphones continues to grow, and quite actively. Of course, since there is demand, there is supply, and manufacturers offer a variety of solutions for this market. So, the company Broadcom recently introduced a chip for budget smartphones that support NFC technology, as well as GPS and GLONASS.

The development was called the BCM21552G, and it all works on the basis of the ARM 11 processor with an operating frequency of 1 GHz, which is quite good on budget smartphones. In addition, this development includes a 3G-modem, the ability to support two SIM-cards at once. According to the developers, the BCM21552G is able to cope with fairly “heavy” graphics, so it turned out something like a universal hardware platform for cell phones. Interestingly, the development from Broadcom also includes two wireless communication modules, this is two-way WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. A good budget smartphone turns out, what do you think?

As for NFC, this new-fashioned technology, which is becoming increasingly popular, is supported by the Broadcom BCM20791 controller. At the moment, the number of mobile phones that support NFC is very small, but manufacturers are trying to correct this omission - because technology is becoming more popular among users.

In general, the development is presented, and everything looks pretty good, but the exact dates for the start of mass production of this chip, unfortunately, are not known. But if the chip goes "into people", then smartphones of the middle and lower price segments will become quite functional. Of course, the older models will develop, nothing now stands still, but still the budget smartphone will not be as budget as it can be judged.
