The news of Mail.ru Group that they began developing a clone of the Russian Twitter microblogging service first introduced me to a slight fallacy. But the idea has found its face and since January 16, 2012, the public beta-testing of the futubra.com service has been launched .

I'll start with the name. For the Russian service, to put it mildly, it is unusual and even raises some questions about its significance and origin. Judging by the issue of Google, this is the fruit of the creative team that works on this service (in which, by the way, a little, a lot, 20 people).

The functionality of this service is very similar to Twitter, but with its whistles.
First, it is worth noting that for writing a message you are given as much as 200 characters. Do not even ask why the developers chose this particular figure, I do not know.
Secondly, besides the text, “futubrit” is possible with media content, and to the full. Insert links from popular and not-so-great video hosting sites (Youtube, Vimeo, Rutube, Video@Mail.Ru), share photos, uploading them yourself or giving a link to it. It is also convenient to notify friends, colleagues or just good people about various events. Naturally, the quotation of messages, their convenient insertion into the context and other “likes” are supported. The “I'm Bored” tab has long remained a mystery to me until I tried it. It highlights your message with a special peak that notifies readers of your sadness.



The hierarchy of readers is built by analogy with Twitter, but not without a touch of originality - it is possible to create groups and, accordingly, read others. A few news feeds are awesome. In addition, regular recommendations from the “Whom to read” service will not make even the most picky user bored.



In the near future, developers are building mobile applications, and for all modern platforms (Apple iOS, Android, Symbian Windows Phone 7).

Although the idea of ​​this type of resource seems doubtful to me, I think this project will still be popular and occupy its niche in the market. The only question is whether the Mail.Ru Group will turn from the right path?
