[archlinux testing news] new LTS and udev-177

Hi habrareyudi! I will try to write short.

I.

First about the core. A new LTS appeared in testing !!!
')
- package name changed to linux-lts
- the config is synchronized with the latest 3.0.x
- nouveau-drm-lts thrown nafig - it is now in the core
- the kernel name has changed: vmlinuz-linux-lts
- the names of the initramfs have changed: initramfs-linux-lts.img

All users must make the appropriate changes in their loaders. For compatibility, when upgrading, symlinks will be created on the old names.

Well, let's start testing;)

Ii.

udev-177 appeared in [testing], therefore I want to say a couple of warning words.

First, do not be frightened by the messages that mkinitcpio will break if you use udev-177, they are completely harmless and will disappear in the next release of mkinitcpio (which will go to the core at the same time as udev-177).

(To be more precise, mkinitcpio errors refer to the “missing” rules in udev for firmware and helpers. Now udev handles firmware with built-in functions and therefore no longer depends on any external files. If you notice any errors other than the ones listed above, you can shout out loud in the appropriate place.)

In this release, much has changed. Namely:

- rolled back changes to the build system and standard installation paths. Tom did everything possible to fix everything back, because we are not yet ready to transfer / bin to / usr / bin.

- blkid and modprobe are no longer used; instead, internal libraries use the appropriate libraries. Both of these changes can lead to bugs, so shout urgently if you notice something.

- as mentioned earlier, the use of devtmpfs is now mandatory for everyone.

This release uses kmod, which is currently under active development. Therefore, udev will remain in testing until Dave decides that kmod is ready for the core.

It is characteristic that not everyone is doing well. Andre on the laptop with systemd-38 did not get up the wifi and stopped running some programs. He downgrades back mkinitcpio, udev and kmod, and immediately stumbled upon errors ( http://dpaste.com/687105/ ). With this question will soon figure out the appropriate people. If you are very afraid, make snapshots before upgrading;)

UPD : Andre repaired by reinstalling. Panic is canceled. But if anything, you know what to do: reinstall kmod, mkinitcpio, systemd.

Happy new updates, gentlemen!
And may the Force be with u.
