What we thought about 20 years ago

In 2007, when the solemn mass procession of touchscreen phones began on the planet, without which we no longer perceive the smartphone, the big screens, the lack of a keyboard, and many other “features” that are now at the top of the cornerstone seemed unusual to us.

Could you imagine that 20 years ago, in 1992, IBM, in one of the prototypes of the new device, was able to get rid of everything superfluous by replacing the keyboard with a huge screen, where all applications look standard? I could not even imagine anything like it, but here it is - Simon.

As it turned out, the "killer" of mobile keyboards was invented a long time ago and embodied, in the best canons of the time, in black plastic with a monochrome touchscreen display. Simon was created in partnership with IBM and Bellsouth (today part of the giant AT & T). Of course, the complexity of the gadget is not the highest by today's standards, but at the beginning of the nineties, the device had extremely high functionality, including the built-in fax machine.

Such devices show how our opinion and way of thinking have not changed in recent decades, and marketing has succeeded, as well as miniaturization. But the basic idea remained the same, becoming only a little more compact.
