Acer acquires Gateway
The Taiwanese company Acer announced the acquisition of the American manufacturer of personal computers Gateway. After completion of the transaction (most likely it will be December 2007), Acer will be able to beat the competition from Lenovo and become the third PC manufacturer in the world.
Under the terms of the agreement, Acer will spend about $ 710 million on takeover. Each Gateway share will cost the Taiwanese company $ 1.9, which is 57% higher than the market value of the securities. But the leadership of Acer goes for it, since entering the US market will provide the combined company with revenue of about $ 15 billion a year. And the effect of joint activities will bring both companies at least $ 150 million before taxes.
