Pano Logic Virtual Desktop

The company Pano Logic has introduced a new development designed to create virtual desktops. Developed on the basis of its own architecture, Pano Logic, the device, called Pano , allows you to connect a keyboard, mouse, display, as well as sound and USB peripherals to a server running Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows XP.

In theory, devoid of a processor, RAM, installed OS and drivers (all this is on the server, why does the virtualization device need this?) Pano should be a very handy thing. So, to organize a small office or warehouse, it’s enough to install one powerful server (server software, including VMware Server, Pano Logic comes bundled with a device) and buy several devices.

The manufacturer relies on the fact that Pano does not require updating the software and drivers (updated on the server and enough), eliminates the risk of exposure to viruses, spyware and other malicious dirty tricks at the client system level and allows you to effectively distribute the server resource among all workstations. Well, as an additive, in terms of power consumption, Pano is simply Thumbelina: the device consumes only 5 watts, which is about 3% of the “requests” of an ordinary PC.

In Pano Logic, they took care to explain to customers why they need to buy Pano and what it will give them. But personally, I don’t fully understand (most likely due to the lack of necessary skills in this area) than such a solution would be better than the same thin client (terminal). Especially in light of the fact that the company will not sell its solutions, but “lease them”, charging $ 20 per workplace per month. It would be interesting to hear the opinion of professionals.
