New BlackBerry PlayBook features with OS 2.0

Just yesterday, RIM sent out a press release stating that the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 will feature new BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 features. Updating the operating system will add new standard applications for working with mail, contacts and social networks (Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn, etc.).

In addition, they promise a lot of interesting things. The mail client will not only use full font support and have rich formatting capabilities, but will also be multi-threaded. Multithreading will allow, for example, to write a new letter while the previous one is being sent. Applications Contacts and Calendar will themselves collect information from social networks about a contact or company.

A very interesting opportunity will appear thanks to the technology BlackBerry Bridge. Now your BlackBerry smartphone will be able to act as a remote control for the PlayBook. This can be convenient, for example, when the tablet is connected to a TV via HDMI for watching videos. I think that when showing a presentation from a tablet, the smartphone can be used as a remote. Also, the smartphone can be used as an external keyboard.

Many mobile application and game developers have begun to release and transfer their applications to the PlayBook platform. Such games as Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Groupon, Thomson Reuters, Zinio and many others have appeared. And with the update of OS 2.0, an application such as Video Store will appear in which you can purchase movies and TV shows right after they are released on DVD. The application allows you to start watching the movie immediately, no need to wait for the full download of the file.

More complete information is contained in the press release . The BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 update will be available for free download to all BlackBerry PlayBook users. Expected update release - February 2012.
