Social networks - progress or degradation of society?

Let's look into the recent past ... Pioneer tie, then Komsomol. The party said “should”, the Komsomol answered “is”. And Mars will grow apple trees.
Many of us have been brought up by Soviet science fiction literature, and partly foreign as well. What was in it? There were robots in it.

Scientific and technical progress. Robotic equipment surrounded the heroes of the books, robots and automatic machines cooked food, washed laundry, cleaned the house, were engaged in medicine, construction, research of the Earth and of course space. Artificial intelligence manifested itself as a reliable partner of man. And the person, in turn, was offered to live and develop spiritually.
Let's go back in our days. A stunning leap forward, the emergence of electronic computers in every damn thing that just glances. Heuristic computing methods, emulation of mental activity, neural networks, fuzzy-logik, computer control with the help of voice, and even direct control of a computer by electromagnetic brain waves are real scientific experiments, even if the latter are still little known. The complete victory of technology over reason, of which the Bolsheviks had been talking for so long.
And what, the triumph of artificial intelligence? Fuck it ... Social networks. Self-regulating communities. No automatic ratings or rebounds. No artificial intelligence in the search engine robots. Extremely human assessment. Assessment based on the factor of banal confidence and expert opinion of a relatively large group of people. So what is this phenomenon? Decadence, appeal to the past, proven methods of "consult"? Degradation of society in pursuit of supposedly living nature? Banal fear of the same society, some form of xenophobia, the desire to warm their animal instincts, joining a particular society? Unclear…
