Broadcom Launches IEEE 802.11ac Chips

At the end of last year, Broadcom announced its intention to release chips based on the new IEEE 802.11ac communication standard. This standard is about three times faster than IEEE 802.11n, so many manufacturers of network equipment, mobile devices and laptops are interested in the news. Actually, as promised, the first IEEE 802.11ac-based chips have already been created, and on Monday, at the Consumer Electronics Show, which will be held in Las Vegas, these chips will be demonstrated to the public.

By the way, now Broadcom creates only chips for personal computers, the corresponding chips for mobile devices will be released a little later. And in a month or two, we can expect the appearance of the first devices using IEEE 802.11ac. Interestingly, all this is released even before the Wi-Fi Alliance certifies the new standard, which should happen no earlier than the fourth quarter of 2012. Actually, it was the same with chips and devices with IEEE 802.11ac standard.

In Broadcom called the new standard 5G WiFi. Theoretically, the 5G WiFi bandwidth is up to 1.3 Gb / s. In practice, the line was reached 1.1 Gb / s. This bandwidth is due to the simultaneous use of three channels, each of which allows you to send and receive data at a speed of 350 MB / s.

Soon there will be chips that can be used not only in PCs, but also in routers, as well as in other devices. As for another company, Qualcomm Atheros, here they are talking about the release of new chips by about the middle of 2012. Qualcomm Atheros management is going to wait for the technology to be finalized, after which it will also release new chips.
