Exactly at midnight on this day thousands and thousands of works of our culture are set free, in accordance with the laws they are freed from copyright and transferred into the public domain , i.e. become available to the whole society without copyright restrictions. So I started a post about the Day of Public Domain a year ago. It makes no sense to reprint a large part - you can read everything in last year’s article .
Now I will say that from the new content is already waiting for us in this 2012.

In most countries of the world, copyright expires 70 years after the author’s death, i.e. Now works in the public domain are transferred whose author died before January 1, 1942, or works published anonymously before January 1, 1942. That is, specifically in 2012, we recall the authors who died in 1941. A list of the most famous authors can be found on Wikipedia in Russian ( short list , full list ) or in English ( short list , full list ). In Russia, there is also a 70-year term, but in addition there is another border - if the author * died before January 1, 1943, or the work was published anonymously before January 1, 1943, then the work is in the public domain . That is, while 70 term is not so useful for us, but still not completely useless. On 1 January 2012, films, television and cartoons, television and radio programs, made public before January 1, 1942, are in the public domain . So, in 1941 the following films were released. These are such films as Dream, Four Hearts, Stepan Razin, How Ivan Ivanovich fell out with Ivan Nikiforovich, Bogdan Khmelnitsky, A Musical Story, My Love, Valery Chkalov, Konek-Gorbunok, Anton Ivanovich Is Angry, The Artamonovs Case, Swineherd and the Shepherd, Chapaev with Us , Shining path, Mysterious island. You can spend the New Year holidays for (re) watching these movies. You can download them even from torrents - a little less than 9 hours ago these distributions became absolutely legal and now no one can demand to remove them, now no one should pay to anyone for these films.
Do anything with new content (at least sell for money), just specify the authorship. Happy Public Domain Day!
