After 7.5 years, Firefox developers have added line numbering for source code

On December 28, the Firefox developers finally closed the ticket 246620 , already created on June 13, 2004, and added a line numbering display in the source code window of the web pages, which is called by the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + U.

Such sluggishness can be understood: the functionality is too low, not very necessary and too easy to implement - this is always put off until later with the thought “Well, I can always do this nonsense when there is a moment” - so the years pass. Moreover, it can be called redundant, because the current line number is shown in the status bar, and the Ctrl + L combination allows you to go to the line by number.

Mozilla’s full-time developers are busy with more serious tasks, so they refer to the community. They say that only two months ago they sent a patch and only a month ago they sent the tests that are necessary in accordance with the procedure, and only yesterday these tests were corrected. So Mozilla made corrections literally the day after the community resolved the problem on its own. This is how open projects are developed (and some closed ones too) - if you want some option in the program, then do it yourself.
