Students from the University of Amsterdam (VU) play Tetris with an optical tweaser
Apparently, students at Vrije Universiteit University from Amsterdam have a lot of free time, because these guys have time to play tetris. In this case, the game does not use gaming consoles, not computer programs, or even an oscilloscope (some models of these devices allow you to play simple video games). No, the students decided to play tetris with lasers at the microscopic level. Rather, it is not a laser that is used here, but an optical twizer (the name “laser tweezers” still exists).
Students created a device that focuses the beam on a specific surface. In this case, the beam is a trap for microparticles of a substance, they are in focus, and can not leave. As a result, there is what is - a game of tetris with microparticles. Well, to start the game again is quite simple - when you turn off the device, all particles start moving freely again, so there is no problem starting a new level. ')
In general, this project has no special scientific value, perhaps, students just wanted to have some fun. It turned out good fun.
