Tyva VIA Technologies announced the release of a truly unique chip series VIA Eden. The latest 500 MHz processor built on the x86 architecture and having 128 KBytes of L2 cache, at maximum load, consumes an amazingly little energy - just one watt! Moreover, in idle mode, the chip requires ten times less - one-tenth of a watt. The case dimensions are no less modest - 21 x 21 mm (NanoBGA2 packaging), which allows the processor to be built into a wide variety of systems. As stated in VIA, the new product based on the VIA CoolStream technology can be perfectly combined with another product of the company - the VIA CX700 / M media processor designed for systems with a total energy consumption not exceeding 10 watts.
Such manufacturers as Biostar, Unicorn, AAEON and others have already become interested in the half-gigahertz VIA Eden ULV chip.
The company does not publicly name the cost of the new solution, but the chip itself is happy to demonstrate at the Embedded System Conference Taiwan conference.
