Google was
pleased with the news in the official twitter: today, the automatic update of the operating system on Google Nexus S devices starts from the current version of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) to the version Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich). On a similar hardware, 4.0 is faster and more responsive than 2.3.
The update for the Nexus S can be installed manually now: download the
OTA-package (zip), rename it to update.zip, copy it to your phone and install it using the bootloader. List of major changes for the Nexus S, see
here (
review on Habré ). At the same time with the system, you need to upgrade the Flash Player: version
11.1 has been released today, and there will
never be more updates for Flash Player.
The rest of the manufacturers of Android devices also promise an upgrade to Android 4.0, but at different times and only
for the newest models of smartphones / tablets. The work is clearly at odds with each other, and the previous plans of the Android alliance for the mandatory upgrade of all devices that have appeared on the market in the last 18 months are clearly not being respected.
