I monitored 3 of my small sites through the host-tracker.com system for several months, turned on notifications to the jabber account and enjoyed a good uptime (or kicked the hoster when something broke), In general, everything was great until the last week or two.
Recently there were interruptions in monitoring, and one of the sites generally dropped out of checks.

PS For me it is not very scary, of course. If you really need it, I can organize a simple checker on each of my servers (since they are from different providers and in different cities) and send notifications also to jabber or email2sms.
