The tablet appeared in our editorial office for two reasons. The first and main thing is that it is built on the basis of the system on a chip of the new generation NVIDIA Tegra 3, and the second and also not unimportant - for it you can buy an accessory in the form of a keyboard that turns a tablet into a laptop. In general, we simply could not pass by ASUS Transformer Prime and not talk about it!
Design
The fact that the gadget is made of metal on the one hand makes it durable and stylish, and on the other - quite heavy. For some reason, the same 600 grams of iPad seems a little easier. But in Prime, the center of gravity is shifted down so that when connected to the dock, the screen does not roll back. ')
On the top there is a power button, on the left - a volume control, a slot for microSD cards and a micro HDMI port. On the right, there is only a headphone jack, and at the bottom is a connector for charging and connecting to the docking station.
Display
The Prime display has a diagonal of 10.1 ", a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and supports up to 10 touches at a time. The IPS matrix is behind the protective glass, which provides excellent color reproduction and viewing angles.
Camera
Behind, traditionally located camera. It has a matrix of eight megapixels, and the front - 1.2 Mpix. - for video calls.
Connecting to the keyboard is much easier than in the case of the first Transformer. Just insert the tablet into the groove until it clicks, and that's it - it is securely fastened and does not wobble at all.
In addition, this docking station has a standard USB port and a slot for large SD cards. Inside, it has a 3000 mAh battery, which, combined with a 3380 mAh battery built into the tablet, gives approximately 17 hours of video playback in energy saving mode. But hardly anyone will watch a bunch of movies in a row, so you can fully hope for more than a day of autonomous work.
Under the keyboard is a touchpad, but it is so small that it is inconvenient to use. I advise you to take a mouse with you and connect it via USB or Bluetooth.
The keyboard itself is an island type. Russian layout is not drawn, but the system, Cyrillic, of course, supports, and typing texts is quite convenient. The Home button is in place of the Windows key, and instead of the F row, there are hot buttons to control Wi-Fi, BT, return to the previous menu, etc.
Iron
Inside the tablet, as already mentioned, there is a Tegra 3 chip with four ARM processors and NVIDIA graphics, as well as a gigabyte of RAM and 16 GB of memory.
Subjectively, the system (Android 3.2.1) began to work more smoothly than on the previous chip. And the Quadrant Standart test estimates the configuration at about 2,700 points, which is higher than that of the Tegra 2, but still lower than that of the dual-core Exynos.
Soft
Special software preinstalled a bit, but it is useful. This is MyCloud - for storing data in the cloud and managing your PC from a tablet, MyLibrary - for buying and storing books and magazines, MyNet - for accessing content on a local network via DLNA and Super Note - a really convenient program for notes.
Summary
In general, I really liked the Transformer Prime tablet. And when it is updated to the fourth Android, it will become even better and smoother. If I lived overseas, I would certainly buy it, especially since it costs from 500 to 600 bucks depending on the amount of memory.
But in the feasibility of a hardware keyboard for 150 bucks, I'm still not sure. If I needed an Asus laptop , I would take a UX21 ultrabook on Windows.
