Intel Creates Mobile Division



Intel has announced that the company will soon create a unit whose task is to develop a variety of technologies for mobile devices. Thus, Intel plans to compete with ARM Holdings, whose chips are now the most popular among mobile device developers.

In order to create a new division, Intel will merge four existing departments of the company at once, forming an autonomous structure. The new division, which will be engaged in the development of technologies for mobile devices, will be called the Intel Mobile and Communications Group. In this case, Intel will pay attention not only to mobile phones, the functions of the newly formed unit will cover netbooks with tablets, micro devices, as well as wireless mobile developments.

At the head of the Intel Mobile and Communications Group will be well-known to many Michael Bell. Michael has previously worked, and quite successfully, in companies such as Palm and Apple. In 2010, Bell began working at Intel, taking up the development of various kinds of technology for mobile devices (mainly for smartphones). One of the main areas of work of the new division, led by Bell, will be the creation of a new type of chips for tablets. With regard to technology Medfield, previously announced, then work on it will be terminated.

According to the company's management, new chips should appear no further than next year, and these chips will be able to compete with ARM solutions. As for the name for the new chips, they will be assigned to the existing - Atom. True, they will have not so much in common with the current "atoms".
