Indonesian government threatens to ban BlackBerry services
This is not the first time that Research In Motion security measures cause a small inferiority complex, but the Indonesian government is currently threatening to ban BlackBerry’s BIS and BBM services domestically if the latter do not provide them with user data. It seems that Indonesian officials are upset that RIM will build its data centers in Singapore, and not at home. In addition, the government does not have the ability to track the data sent / received, which they view as a security risk. As you probably know, all data is processed by RIM itself. Heru Sutadi, a member of the Indonesian Telecommunication Regulation Body , stated the following:
“In such conditions as now, we urge our citizens to be more careful when using the BlackBerry, because the security of the data they exchange is not guaranteed. ”
Sounds weird, right? We always feel safer when we know that the government is following our messages.
