Broadcom is preparing a new wireless standard

In case of successful standardization, this project will receive the official classification of Wi-Fi 802.11ac. As you know, currently the most popular is the wireless standard Wi-Fi 802.11n. Previously, standardization and the release of the new standard (such a tautology turned out) required quite a lot of time. But now, according to the vice-president of the company Broadcom, everything has changed, and devices with support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac should begin to appear around the second half of 2012.

Most likely, the new standard will be actively used by manufacturers of mobile devices, stand-alone communication modules and laptops. After all, in such devices requires a maximum data transfer rate. According to the developers, in Wi-Fi 802.11ac the main advantage is not an increase in bandwidth, but an increase in the range. On average, the effective range of Wi-Fi 802.11ac wireless radio is 200 meters.

The new technology uses a more efficient data transfer format, allows you to send and receive data in multiple streams. The total “width” of such a radio channel will be 1.3G bps. Now the existing standard Wi-Fi 802.11n provides data transfer with a maximum speed of 300M bps.

The updated technology of wireless data transmission can compete with the standard Wireless HDMI. Wi-Fi 802.11ac provides for the use of more radio frequencies, including 800 MHz and 160 MHz, while 11n uses 40 MHz. All this will lead to the fact that even a large number of devices that support Wi-Fi 802.11ac, can coexist peacefully, without interfering with each other.
