Google translates its network to IPv6

Google’s entire internal network infrastructure and related processes will be transferred to IPv6 in a short time. This news has become known due to the report of Irena Nikolova, who occupies the position of network communications engineer at Google. Nikolova also said that the transition to IPv6 can be quite difficult, as the company will have to face a number of changes.

Now the translation of Google networks and IPv6 is in full swing, and this applies not only to the United States, but also to all countries where the company's offices are located. Translation to IPv6 began to be carried out inside Google since 2008. It was then that a small (we can say test) part of the company's network infrastructure was transferred to the new protocol. Since then, the engineers of the Corporation of Good have set themselves the task of transferring all the communication elements of the company to the new protocol.

Part of the need for such a transition is due to the fact that Google simply does not have free IPv4 addresses, so you need to switch to IPv6 as soon as possible. Currently, not everything is good “in the Danish kingdom,” because, according to the same Irena Nikolova, some types of third-party equipment and software do not work with IPv6 as well as stated by the manufacturers themselves (mostly Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks and Aruba Networks).

Work on the transition to a new protocol has not yet been completed, there is still quite a lot to do. Nevertheless, the company has offices (some of them are included in the list of the “ most creative offices ”) in different countries of the world (about 200 offices), plus more than 30 thousand employees - this is really a lot. But it seems that Google will still be able to carry out his plan, and will do it in time.
