Probably many habrizhiteli familiar with the world-famous series of games STALKER, the production of which since 2007 has been engaged in the Ukrainian company GSC Game World. Despite the repeatedly postponed release dates, the official circulation of the first part of the STALKER series: “Shadows of Chernobyl” amounted to 950 thousand copies in the CIS and 700 thousand in the West, which is a very high result for a company from Eastern Europe. Many publications and gamers have characterized the game as "cult."
Today it became known that Sergey Grigorovich, the founder and CEO of GSC Game World, announced the closure of the company at a meeting of the workforce, explaining his decision with personal motives.
An informed source inside the company stressed that part of the workforce (the company employs about 50 people) associates the closure of the company with Grigorovich’s dissatisfaction with the development of the game STALKER 2, which was to be released in 2012, and some with interest in the company from one of power structures, which began, according to the source, about two months ago, having made a reservation, however, that this is only his assumption.
')
It is worth recalling that the prequel and sequel to the “Shadows of Chernobyl”, called “Clear Sky” and “Call of Pripyat”, respectively, did not have such success as the first part, and therefore the fans of the series had high hopes for STALKER 2. Therefore, a logical question arises about the fate of one of the most successful games created on the territory of the CIS - will the development be stopped completely or will any company take up the project, developing the game further?
