It is hard to imagine that a completely unknown company could intervene in the market battle of two giants - Intel and AMD. However, it also happens that the young organization Tilera, which has released a 64-core processor, is actually trying to prove it.

The device, called Tile64, according to its creators, is ten times more powerful than Intel Xeon dual cores and forty times more than Texas Instruments' DSP.
According to the specifications of the processor, it is made on 90-nm technology form (RISC) and can operate at a frequency of from 600 to 1000 megahertz. The advantage of Tile64 over its competitors is that each core has its own cache and switching unit. Thanks to the latter, data from any kernel can come to any of the four others that are nearby. Each core is capable of distilling 500 Gbps in a second, which allows Tile64 to simultaneously process up to eight standard definition video streams. With HD video is more modest: two streams in 720p format and one in 1080p format. It is planned to use the processor in consumer electronics, digital tuners, network hubs and other devices.

By the way, the processor is manufactured in Taiwan Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and costs from $ 435 per piece (when ordering from 10 thousand). In the future, Tilera plans to launch the release of a 36-nuclear and 120-nuclear modification of the chip.
