Tom Lane (Tom Lane)
reported that the patch that integrates full-text search (previously performed as a separate module, contrib / tsearch2) into the core PostgreSQL, has been successfully
added to CVS . Of course, this is a key point in the complex process of adopting patches for version 8.3
(recall, feature freeze was announced as early as April 1, i.e., since then, ideas for developing Postgres functionality have not been accepted and all developers' attention has been absorbed by the process of processing already proposed patches)
A week ago, the adoption of the full-text search patch in branch 8.3
was called into question . Now we can confidently say that PostgreSQL 8.3 will contain one of the most anticipated changes: full-text search (supported and developed by our developers,
Oleg Bartunov and
Fedor Sigaev ) will now be available in PostgreSQL by default. In addition, a SQL-like syntax will simplify the work of users (a draft of the documentation is here:
http://www.sai.msu.su/~megera/postgres/fts/doc/ ).
The 58th (!) Version of the patch was adopted in CVS HEAD.
According to Tom , this is the largest patch in the history of PostgreSQL:
')
This is the largest single patch ever
Postgres CVS tree. Congratulations to Oleg and Teodor on seeing
it through!
