France joined the number of countries that declare the principle of transparency and lay out government data under a free license.
The state data portals have already launched the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, but France has been able to surpass everyone: the state Data.gouv.fr portal contains about 352,000 data sets in the CSV and XLS formats: real estate, taxes, unemployment, quality of schooling, crash statistics, crime rate, ecology, epidemiology, election results and much more. The data are collected from 90 state structures and are tied to the locality
Needless to say, the value of these files are for web developers. For example, in the United States, in a short time after the opening of such a portal, citizens developed about 250 applications , and state agencies - about 1,100 . Among the interesting ones is the national map of deaths in road accidents for 2001–2009 , statistics on flight delays , comparison of cities for obesity , etc.
