Facebook has agreed to purchase Gowalla

The geolocation service Gowalla has recently been purchased by the social network Facebook, as reported by "informed sources". The service itself is a kind of analogue of Foursquare, and at one time these two services competed almost on equal terms. True, some time ago it became clear that Foursquare is still much stronger, so to speak. It is worth noting that Gowalla was founded in 2009, so by today's standards it is almost a veteran of the industry of geolocation services.

After the change of leadership, Gowalla moved into a slightly different area of work, becoming positioned as a service for travelers. In this new status, the work of the service began to improve, and it was probably for this reason that the company was noticed by the leadership of Facebook. It is worth noting that the representatives of the latter have not yet commented on the purchase, and the management of Gowalla abstains from official comments so far.

Well, and CNN Money, despite the closeness of the transaction, everyone has already learned (except for the cost of the transaction itself). So, most of the employees of Gowalla will go to the Facebook office, this also applies to the founder of the service, Josh Williams. Now the company is located in Austin, Texas. A little later, all the assets of the service will be moved to the headquarters of Facebook.

It may well be that Facebook will use the technology of its acquisition to improve its own functionality, including Faebk Timeline. This sub-service of a social network is intended for stories of different people about interesting moments in their life. And Gowalla will add all this with its own stories, users, and functions.
