Virtualization performance record as an example of a successful technology partnership.A couple of weeks ago, a
public beta version of RHEV 3.0 appeared , based on open source projects being developed in Red Hat such as
KVM and
oVirt . I thought that this was a good reason to talk about a new virtualization performance record achieved thanks to the collaboration between HP and Red Hat.
Back in mid-July, he drew attention to the news that Red Hat was recognized as the
partner of the year for the HP AllianceONE program for the second year in a row. This time with the Red Hat Cloud, HP Edition product and the HP Cloud Computing ISV category. Separately, I want to thank for the responsiveness of the HP habr-employees who kindly agreed to
tell some details .

So, as a result of the joint work of Red Hat and HP on the Red Hat Cloud, HP Edition product, not only a special section
“RHEV on HP” appeared on the Red Hat website, but also a new
record of virtualization performance . If you remove the marketing husk from the news related to this event, the “dry residue” is:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 with the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor on the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 servers set a new overall performance record in the SPECvirt_sc2010 test. This benchmarking test measures the ability of a system to host virtual machines that run a number of typical server applications and is modeled to resemble the real tasks of customers.
For virtualization partners working with KVM, this HP and Red Hat win means KVM is ready to scale in large, corporate environments. Yes, benchmarks, that's not all, but they certainly mean something when making decisions about the implementation of a specific product. And although, as with all synthetic tests, the results of this testing include skepticism, these are real indicators.
If you look at the
results of a recent survey , you can see that at Habré KVM is one of the top three preferred server virtualization platforms (I don’t consider VirtualBox, for obvious reasons). With its low cost and record-breaking performance, the next KVM achievement gives the
Open Virtualization Alliance participants confidence that they have made the right choice. ;-)
