Vanilla Forum 2.0

Some time ago, there was a discussion on Habré about whether the forums would die out in the era of Web 2.0. And if not, in what form we could expect the emergence of new forum engines, to which we could add “2.0”.
This engine has already appeared. About him I want to tell the habrasoobschestvu, as the thing, in my opinion, quite interesting ...

I want to warn immediately, my goal is simply to point to the engine, and all the following is my personal opinion, which I express after working with the engine.

Despite the fact that developers of such well-known engines as IPB and VBulletin add such features as ajax-editing and create appropriate modes (for the tag cloud for example), it is unlikely that anyone would think to associate these engines with web 2.0.
AJAX'a and tags are clearly not enough. A different approach was required.
The Vanilla forum is precisely this approach.
Vanilla cow engine is extremely simple and not burdened with features. The developer has relied on ease and usability.
But the above does not mean that Vanilla brings us back to the era of web forums. Vanilla has its own framework, which allows writing extensions for the forum (for the first time I meet this feature at the open source forum). Extensions are installed by one click through the admin panel and no changes are made to the source code. At the time of writing this topic - extensions in the database of about three hundred.
Thanks to the extensions we have already written, we can get a true web-dance engine. Extensions include tag cloud, search preservation, forum bookmarks, blogging, podcasts, rss, social bookmarks, etc.
So, each of these virtues does not by itself make Vanilla the “2.0” engine, but in the aggregate it is so.

PS: I apologize for the crumpled presentation is my first blog post, and the first pancake, as you know, is always lumpy.
