IT services scored on security

In 2007, Oracle and Ponemon Institute conducted a survey of IT professionals on the degree of protection of corporate computer systems (a sample of 1000+ IT professionals). Then, 42% of respondents honestly admitted that their companies did not pay enough attention to network security issues, but half of the respondents “optimistically” noted that in the event of a disaster, the victims would be identified and warned.

According to the company Symantec, which is engaged in computer security and the production of anti-virus software for 29 years, the smaller the size of the company, the less its concern about the security of its corporate communications. But at the same time, as Symantec states , since the beginning of 2010, 40% of targeted attacks were on networks of small companies - with a staff of less than 500 employees.

What causes carelessness - it is not clear, because the IT specialists themselves (54% of the polled out of 1900) agreed that malware could cause a decrease in overall performance, and 36% see questionable software as a threat of hacker intrusion. “This will lead to a loss of company revenues,” summarized 46% of respondents.

It would be dishonest to think that neglect of protecting your own data is a disease that only small companies suffer. At the beginning of 2011, the internal networks of Russian large companies operating in sectors of strategic importance to the state became the object of study. It turned out that a third of corporations have requirements for the protection of the internal network and corporate correspondence below the proper level, in addition, there is no organized monitoring of information security, and there is no disaster recovery plan for the information system. 20% of large domestic companies ignore information security incidents, more than a third of managers underestimate the risks of unprotected information.

The issue of improving and developing information security systems does not lose its relevance: in early 2011, Intel selected it among the key IT trends for the next 12 months.

Similar predictions were also voiced by Oracle and Ponemon Institute. And there is a suspicion that in a few years we will also read articles about the boom in demand for IT security solutions, and our colleagues will remain indifferent to vendor statistics.
