Stephen Elop was voted man of the year in the mobile industry.

Nokia CEO received his award at the Know Your Mobile Awards 2011.

Award ceremony

Stephen Elop became president and CEO of Nokia in September 2010. He was the first non-Finn in this post. His appointment was the beginning of a monumental change in the organization - right up to the very approach of the company to the mobile phone business.

Elop's mission was to change the face of the company, rethink the brand and create new devices that would be as desirable for the consumer as Apple and BlackBerry products and Android devices.

The launch of the first Nokia phone with Windows Phone, based on Microsoft’s completely new mobile operating system, was the beginning of this mission, combining Nokia’s advanced hardware solutions with user confidence and trust in Microsoft.

The judges say:

“It was not easy to bring Nokia back to life.”

“He speaks truthful words and attracts a lot of media attention to the company. He is also very famous for his previous work at Microsoft. ”

“He made radical, perhaps contradictory changes to rethink Nokia. He has a clear vision of the future, he has a clear goal. ”

His rival was Ilya Laurs of Getjar.

Translator's note: it reminds me of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama. Most of the statements in the article do not seem to me (and consumers ) to be fair, and Stephen Elop himself directly violates the promise of the previous Nokia CEO: “We will not be like those guys who write in their pants to keep warm.”
