Almost 2 years have passed since
they wrote on Habré about Qualcomm Mirasol displays, based on technology close to e-ink and combining the advantages of both electronic ink and traditional displays.

And finally, the project has turned from another laboratory experiment into a market product. The first reader with this screen went on sale in South Korea. Released in collaboration with the largest bookstore in this market, the Kyobo Book Center, called
Kyobo eReader . The retail price is
$ 310 , for Kyobo club card holders only
$ 265 .
')
The remaining characteristics of the device are very good for the reader, although they do not cause delight, if you take the device as a tablet (which it is in fact):
• Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 processor, clocked at 1.0 GHz
• The amount of RAM is 512 MB, flash memory - 2 GB.
• There is a slot for microSD or microSDHC memory cards up to 32 GB.
• The device is equipped with a USB 2.0 port and a Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n adapter.
• Dimensions are 174 x 119 x 12.9 mm, weight - 338 g.
The OS used is Android 2.3.
PS That the article is not too short, well, for those who celebrated Friday well, let me remind you that this screen is so attractive.
Advantages of e-ink:
• low power consumption (it’s not about percentages, but about times)
• since the display reflects light, in good light it does not fade, but on the contrary, the image is seen better
Disadvantages of e-ink:
• black and white
• image refresh rate about 1 second
The advantages of traditional (TFT, AMOLED, etc.) displays:
• colored
• fast refresh
Qualcomm Mirasol screens combine all the listed advantages and are free from significant drawbacks. These screens:
• color (interferometric modulation technology IMOD)
• have power consumption even lower than e-ink
• reflect light, but at the same time have additional built-in (switched off) LED illumination
• have a refresh rate sufficient to view the video
Also, this screen has a good resolution, at the level of other technologies (
1024 x 768 with a
5.7 diagonal, which is 223ppi) and a price that is quite democratic for such a revolutionary product.
