Three years after his first and so far only visit to Russia, the founder of the free software movement, Richard Stallman, comes to Moscow. His presentation will be the key message of the conference “Why the Future is for Free Software”, which will be held under the auspices of the Russian Association for the Promotion of Free Software Development (DASED) on December 1, 2011.

President of the Free Software Foundation, author of the world bestseller Free Software, Free Society and simply a legendary personality, Mr. Stallman will share with the conference participants his original views on the principles of freedom and try to give an objective assessment of the positive and negative consequences of the rapid development of digital technologies in modern the world.

After a previous visit to Mr. Stallman, tectonic changes have taken place in Russia with respect to free software. Government initiatives were developed to implement open source software in government, the formation of the National Program Platform began, and the Open Office Document Standard (ODF) came into effect.
The organizers of the conference, Why the Future is Free Software, hope that the current visit of Richard Stallman will also increase the popularity of open source software in our country. And the ideas voiced by him will allow including into the SPO orbit not only the state, but also the corporate sector of the economy.
