The youngest deputy in the European Parliament - from the Pirate Party
In June 2009, the Pirate Party gained 7.1% in elections in Sweden and won a seat in the European Parliament. Such a number of votes was enough to get a second deputy mandate if the Lisbon Treaty was adopted and, accordingly, the parliament was expanded by 15 new seats with a change in the distribution system between the countries. At the end of 2009, the last members of the EU ratified the treaty, almost two years went into bureaucratic procedures for transforming parliament, and as a result, two additional seats went to Sweden. One of them - the "pirates". So meet the second deputy of the Pirate Party in the European Parliament - Amelia Andersdotter .
After completing the last formalities around December-January, the girl will start work.
Thanks to this event, the Pirate Party set several records at once. First, 24-year-old Amelia will be the youngest member of the European Parliament in all of its history. During the 2009 elections, she was only 21 years old at all.

Amelia’s deputy mandate expires in 2014. Until that time, she intends to deal with the problems of competition in the telecommunications industry. In her opinion , European laws in this area need to be improved, since they take into account only the “horizontal” monopoly, when one company owns all fiber optic cables in the region, but does not take into account the “vertical” monopoly, when the company controls both cable and services. In this case, for example, the provider of a “proprietary” VoIP service has a reason to undercut the competitors' VoIP services in their network. As an example to follow, Amelia refers to the Net Neutrality Act, adopted in the Netherlands.
Amelia Andersdotter believes that the representative of the Pirate Party should be in the national parliament of each country - and the effective work of our representatives in the European Parliament will contribute to this. The recent elections in Germany have shown that the prospects of the new political movement are very good.
