Today, August 16, 2007, marks exactly twenty-five years of compact disc.
The Compact Disc format was developed in Germany and demonstrated a quarter of a century ago by Sony and Philips, now jointly promoting the Blu-ray standard. Since then, an incredible amount of CDs have been sold worldwide — over 200 billion!
By the way, surprisingly, despite the fact that the CD format is quietly (although not very efficiently) supplanted, the form factor itself continues to be healthy and will probably live for more than a dozen years. ')
Happy Birthday :)
