Black Mirror Project: managing your phone with thought concentration

As always in such projects, the control device does not read the thoughts of the operator, but reads the dynamics of the activity of different brain segments. The project uses the corresponding controller from EEG, then a control circuit that converts the brain activity indicator into voice-activated phone software, and the phone itself (iPhone with Siri). The project guys received the name Black Mirror.

The developers explain that the scheme created by them uses the previously recorded readings of brain activity, the characteristics that appear when pronouncing a certain command. The readings are stored in the memory of the control system, which is verified with the current signal from the EEG controller and the base of the recorded signals.

If the signal received from the controller matches the previously recorded readings, the control system plays the corresponding voice command to the audio input of the phone. This command, in turn, is perceived by Siri, and the phone starts to perform a specific action.

In general, the system created by the guys is, to the extreme, impractical, since it requires both a computer and a controller that reads the brain, a control circuit, and a telephone. But all this is quite interesting. Perhaps over time, the system will be able to miniaturize, and then the phones will have a new function “control the phone with thoughts”.
