Google refused to remove popular MP3 Music Download Pro from Android Market

Google refused to comply with the requirement of the RIAA organization and remove the free MP3 Music Download Pro application from the Android Market, with which you can search and download free MP3-files. The refusal of Google to cooperate became known from the words of the representative of the RIAA in an interview with PCMag .

According to the lawyers of the RIAA, this program "obviously contributes to piracy," comparing it with the well-known file-sharing networks Kazaa and LimeWire. Such an example is deliberately given, because the companies mentioned have eventually collapsed under the threat of prosecution. The same can happen with MP3 Music Download Pro.

Now MP3 Music Download Pro has moved to the fifth place in the list of the most popular Android Market applications, overtaking Google Books this week. The number of downloads last week ranged from 5 to 10 million, and now from 10 to 50 million. There are other free programs in the catalog with similar functionality, including Easy MP3 Downloader and MP3 Music Download Super, but they are far from being so popular.

Google may argue that its program can theoretically be used to exchange licensed free music, so it allegedly does not encourage piracy at all. Kazaa and LimeWire used the same defense strategy, but this did not help them. But Google does download free licensed music from sites like Musicslut.com and AuntiePea.com , including from restricted areas of sites that are available only after registration.

On November 16, Google itself set out the presentation of an official store with licensed music, similar to the Apple iTunes Music Store. It seems that they are seriously going to sell licensed music, at the same time distributing a program for downloading free music.
