Adobe stops developing mobile Flash Player

Sources close to Adobe reported that the company is stopping further development of the Flash Player plugin for mobile browsers. The Adobe mailing list for partners says the following:

“In the future, our support for Flash for mobile devices will focus on helping developers create native applications using Adobe AIR for all major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for new browsers, OS versions and mobile device configurations. Some of our source code licenses permit further work and the release of our own implementations. We will continue to support current Android and PlayBook configurations with the release of critical patches and security updates. ”

Instead of Flash Player, Adobe will focus on launching a mobile application platform, interactive content for desktops (both inside and outside the browser), and also increase the investment in HTML5.

The corresponding announcement will be published today on the official website of Adobe.
