Disposable URI: destroy after reading

When you pass someone a secret text / link / password by mail or skype, you should provide additional security measures. Namely, think that a copy of your message is stored in many places: in the mail server logs, in the Skype message history, in the browser history. How to ensure the secrecy of information in such conditions?

The original way came up with the developers of the service One-Tme Secret . Their web application is designed to insert text fragments and generate one-time URIs that work only once, after which the information is erased from the server. The principle is described by the famous expression “destroy after reading”. In addition, the servers do not store any information about visitors to the site and do not keep logs, if you believe the developers, but they seem to be decent guys .

The idea of publishing something secret on someone else’s server will seem strange to someone (it’s better for such people not to use the Internet at all), but in a certain sense, transferring secret information via HTTPS is really safer than sending unencrypted text through mail servers. Anyway, the generation of one-time URIs can be useful in different situations.
