Facebook removed the private information request form

Recently, a story was discussed at Habré about how Max Schrems, a 24-year-old law student at the University of Vienna, fights a legal “battle” with Facebook, more precisely, with its European branch of Facebook Ireland Ireland Ltd. Unlike the American company, this division is forced to obey the more stringent EU laws on information protection.

Since Facebook Ireland Ltd formally serves all countries of the world, except the USA and Canada, every citizen from outside the USA and Canada may require the company to issue to him absolutely all personal information collected on him within 40 days, in accordance with section 4 of the Law protection of information in 1988 and 2003.

Facebook used to have a special form for such a request. But, apparently, as a result of the activity of Max Schrems, the flow of requests to Facebook exceeded all reasonable limits, so the company considered it best to remove this form - and on November 5 it disappeared from the site.

The disappearance of the form for a request for personal information does not mean that the company has ceased to comply with European laws. No, every citizen still has the right to see the files collected on him. True, this will have to work independently on the preparation of the request. To facilitate the task, an instruction on how to send a similar request by email is posted on the Europe vs Facebook website. First of all, you need to make sure that your Facebook profile exactly matches the real data (real name, last name, date of birth, email address).
