Google OpenClass - LMS with a social bias

Google, together with one of the world's largest textbook publishers Pearson, announced the launch of a new Learning Management System (Learning Management System) - OpenClass . In October, OpenClass switched to beta status and was introduced to the industry market. To date, the new LMS is being tested in a number of universities and in parallel dopilivaetsya to the desired state. But already today, a new learning management system can be tested independently with some technical skills, which is certainly not a problem for habrovans.

It is too early to talk about the chance for this system to take significant positions in the training market, but it definitely has several advantages.

')
1. LMS is completely free. Unlike the same Moodle does not require special technical skills for installation and configuration, since everything is "in the clouds."
2. OpenClass run strong players. Pearson, which is one of the leading publishers of educational literature and courses (among other things, they prepare and conduct annual GMAT tests), and Google, which does not need to be presented.
3. Integration with Google services. Gmail, Google Docs and Google Calendar right out of the box.
4. Simple, friendly interface with an eye on social activity.
5. Attractive business model for third-party developers.

The system interface is really nice and not overloaded, but not always intuitive. While there is no normal support for Cyrillic and other languages, the encoding is crookedly displayed. The impression was created that the product is not particularly similar to other creations of Google. Of course, you can make a discount on the fact that this is a beta version, but still.

I wrote about other, key points of OpenClass in a blog , and with habravchanami I would like to organize joint testing of the system, try to create something with joint efforts based on OpenClass and in the process try to understand its perspectives. In principle, as far as I understood, despite the fact that the official website said that Google Apps for Education is required to install OpenClass, some of the comrades managed to launch this LMS on the usual Google Apps.

On the one hand, this announcement is good news, because there are not so many convenient, simple and free LMSs. And on the other hand, it is unclear how the market will change if OpenClass fires. First of all, it concerns the development of courses and materials. The fact is that Google with Pearson decided to create something similar to the mobile app stores App Store and Android Market on the basis of OpenClass and thus give the opportunity to earn training courses for developers. Accordingly, it may be a situation that some development tools will become irrelevant. It is probably too early for such statements, but the topic is interesting and I would like to hear your thoughts on it.
